The only modern things mentioned are the cinema projectionist and a bus, and they could have been omitted without affecting the storyline. Ransmayr paints lovely images and scenes that I think will stick with me for a long time. View all 5 comments.
The appeal of Die letzte Welt is found in its tantalising transformations of form and character, as well as its striking images and its return to myth. Tomi, die eiserne Stadt. In the narrative, customs and objects of the ancient world intermingle with twentieth century technology.
